Rashika N. Hettiarachchi, Esq. is a native of Sri Lanka, an island nation located in South East Asia. Ms. Hettiarachchi emigrated to the United Stated in 1984 and was raised in Staten Island, New York. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Communications at The George Washington University and her Juris Doctorate at the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. While at Touro Law, Ms. Hettiarachchi, was a Teacher’s Assistant in Constitutional Law, worked as the coordinator of the low income tax preparation program, and participated in a federal judicial rotation supervised by Magistrate Judge William D. Wall. In addition, Ms. Hettiarachchi participated in the University of Miami’s London study abroad program at the University College London studying International and Economic Law.
Ms. Hettiarachchi developed her love of criminal law as a law student, while working for a general pactioner. In 2005, Ms. Hettiarachchi fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a prosecutor when she was appointed as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County. While at the District Attorney’s Office, Ms. Hettiarachchi served in the District Court, Case Advisory, Economic Crimes and Major Crime Bureaus. She handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony level criminal offenses from arraignment through trial. At the District Attorney’s office, Ms. Hettarachchi honed her skills as tough negotiator and aggressive trial attorney. In 2013, Ms. Hettiarachchi opened the Hettiarachchi Aguilar Law Office, P.C. a private practice, specializing in Criminal Defense.
Ms. Hettiarachchi has now entered a new chapter of her career by joining the seasoned and respected group of former prosecutors at Raiser and Kenniff, P.C.
Ms. Hettiarachchi is married with two children and lives in Suffolk County and speaks fluent Sinhalese.
